Usually, graduating students are required to pass 25 or more pages of extremely dry thesis reports that are oftentimes read and appraised by a single person before being dumped in the library sometimes rendering them dusty and forgotten. But, a student at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in China named Bi Heng, made a decision that he would do something different and unusual. He decided that instead he would create a 4-ton, $43,000, sculpture honoring the legendary Chinese general Guan Yu. And here's the catch. The sculpture was inspired by the characters of the blockbuster movie, Transformers.
Robo Guan Yu was assembled from components of an old Jiefang brand vehicle, a 25-year-old military service truck used by the People’s Liberation Army back in the day. It stands about 32 feet tall and wields a dynastic-era weapon that makes for a nice juxtaposition with the post-Revolutionary scrap Robo Guan Yu was assembled from. Unfortunately, Robo Guan Yu is static. But you can still see the accompanying promo video and be blown by the general's coolest moves.
